noryl WCD891B resin is a flexible, non-reinforced extrudable blend of polyphenylene ether (PPE) + thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). The material contains non-halogenated flame retardants and is capable of meeting UL VW-1 requirements, an 80C end-use temperature rating, and heat distortion properties as specified by UL 1581. Flexible Noryl WCD891B resin was evaluated for dark colored wire and cable applications. It has a Shore hardness reading of 89, excellent thermal stability, very low water absorption, good electrical properties and low specific gravity. Processing is typically performed on standard extruded equipment, while UL 1581 testing is performed on 2.0mm wire and 0.12mm x 20 strands of copper wire.
Introduction of PPO WCD891B SABIC NORYL:
Modified PPO resin is a PPE/PA blend – a polyamide product reinforced with modified polyphenyl ether polymer (PPE) technology. This technology combines the inherent advantages of PPE polymers such as dimensional stability, low water absorption and heat resistance, with the chemical resistance and flow properties of nylon polymers. As a result, it becomes a material with strong chemical resistance, and at the same time, it has the toughness, impact resistance and heat resistance that can meet the requirements of online spraying. The low density of unfilled NORYL GTX resin makes it possible to save up to 25% of the part weight compared with glass fiber or mineral filled resin.
The Noryl line of modified PPE resins consists of an amorphous blend of PPO resin (polyphenylene oxide) and polystyrene. They combine the inherent advantages of PPO resins (affordable high heat resistance, good electrical properties, excellent hydrolytic stability and the ability to use halogen-free flame-retardant packaging) with excellent dimensional stability, good processability and low specific gravity.
Noryl resins have a good balance of mechanical and chemical properties and may be suitable for a variety of applications.
PPO WCD891B SABIC NORYL main features:
1. Good balance properties, tailorable heat resistance, good hydrolytic stability, high dielectric strength and optional non-halogenated flame retardants in low specific gravity materials. Can be designed to replace stamped steel, die-cast metal and brass in functional assemblies. Compatible with a variety of packing technologies to further tailor desired properties. Stiffness and Strength High stiffness, tensile and flexural strength, even at elevated temperatures, with progressively lower modulus as temperature increases, a key advantage.
2. Due to the inherent high heat resistance of the material, it has good creep resistance even at high temperatures, and it can be made better by adding various filler systems.
3. Impact strength Predictable impact strength, hardly affected by humidity
4.Good electrical properties High dielectric strength and excellent electrical properties
5. Has good flame retardancy, halogen-free flame retardant grade, which helps products comply with a wide range of environmental standards, including UL94V-0. In addition to low toxicity in accordance with GEI 02.37.2, select grades are designed to meet low smoke requirements in the transport segment.
6. Chemical resistance Generally has good resistance to acids, alkalis and many cleaning agents.
7. Hydrolytic stability Excellent hydrolytic stability, the water absorption rate is the highest among any engineering thermoplastics.
8. Low mold shrinkage with very low mold shrinkage coefficient for good dimensional control
