RYTON R-4 PPS plastic
Poly-p-phenylene sulfide (PPS) is a para-substituted polymer formed by alternating sulfur atoms and benzene rings. Its molecular structure has highly stable chemical bonds, which have remarkable molecular stability against thermal degradation and chemical reactions. The molecular structure is also easily packaged into a very thermally stable crystal lattice, so PPS semi-crystalline polymers have a high crystalline melting point of about 285°C (545°F). Due to its molecular structure, polyphenylene sulfide will also develop in the direction of carbonization during the combustion process, making it itself flame retardant. PPS is insoluble in any solvents that are found at temperatures below 200°C (392°F).
