BASF Ultradur B 4040 G11 HMG BK 15029 (formerly Ultradur HMG 12 BK 15029) is 55% glass fiber reinforced PBT+PET grade. In addition to high stiffness, it offers extraordinary dimensional stability.
Polybutylene terephthalate, also known as polytetramethylene terephthalate. Abbreviated as PBT. It is a polycondensate of terephthalic acid and 1,4-butanediol. Together, PBT and PET are known as thermoplastic polyesters.
2. Characteristics and application of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT)
1. Characteristics of PBT
a. Mechanical properties: high strength, fatigue resistance, dimensional stability, and small creep (very little change under high temperature conditions);
b. Heat aging resistance: the enhanced UL temperature index reaches 120~140°C (the outdoor long-term aging resistance is also very good);
c, solvent resistance: no stress cracking;
d. Water stability: PBT is not easy to decompose when it meets water at room temperature (use caution in high temperature and high humidity environment);
e. Electrical performance:
1. Insulation performance: excellent (it can maintain stable electrical properties even under humidity and high temperature, and is an ideal material for manufacturing electronic and electrical parts);
2. Dielectric coefficient: 3.0-3.2;
3. Arc resistance: 120s
f. Molding processability: injection molding or extrusion molding with ordinary equipment. Due to the fast crystallization speed and good fluidity, the mold temperature is lower than other engineering plastics. When processing thin-walled parts, it only takes a few seconds, and it only takes 40-60s for large parts.
2. Application of PBT (usually refers to modified varieties);
a. Electronic appliances: connectors, switch parts, household appliances, accessory parts, small electric covers (heat resistance, flame retardancy, electrical insulation, molding processability);
b. Car:
1. Exterior parts: mainly corner grille, engine heat release escutcheon, etc.;
2. Internal components: mainly include endoscope stays, wiper brackets and control system valves;
3. Automotive electrical parts: automotive ignition coil twisted tubes and various electrical connectors, etc.
(The number of PBT used in automobiles is less than that of nylon, polycarbon and polyoxymethylene, but with the emergence of low warpage PBT, it will be more used in automobile parts in the future)
c. Mechanical equipment: belt drive shafts of video tape recorders, electronic computer covers, mercury lamp covers, electric iron covers, baking machine parts, and a large number of gears, cams, buttons, electronic watch cases, and camera parts (with heat resistance, flame retardant requirements)
3. Bonding of PBT plastics:
VariousIf required, the following adhesives can be selected:
1. TG-3200: One-component room temperature curing soft elastic shockproof adhesive, resistant to high and low temperature, but the bonding speed is slow, and the glue usually takes 1 or several days to cure.
2. TS-8602 instant adhesive can quickly bond PBT in a few seconds or tens of seconds, but the adhesive layer is hard and brittle and not resistant to water.
3. TE-9270 type, two-component adhesive, the adhesive layer is soft, suitable for large-area bonding or compounding of PBT. But the high temperature performance is poor.
4. TE-9249 glue: two-component glue, high temperature resistance.
5.sili-1706: One-component room temperature vulcanization rubber, after curing, it is an elastomer with excellent waterproof, shockproof adhesive, high and low temperature resistance, if the thickness is 1-2mm, it will basically cure in 5-6 hours, with a certain Strength of. It takes at least 24 hours to fully cure. One-component, no need to mix, just apply after extrusion and let stand without heating.
Process characteristics of PBT
PBT must be dried at a temperature of 110-120°C for about 3 hours before injection molding, the molding processing temperature is 250-270°C, and the mold temperature is preferably controlled at 50-75°C. As the material is cooled from the molten state, it will immediately solidify and crystallize, so the cooling time is short; if the nozzle temperature is not properly controlled (too low), the flow channel (nozzle) is easy to cool and solidify, and plugging will occur. If the temperature of the barrel exceeds 275°C or the residence time of the molten material in the barrel exceeds 30 minutes, it is easy to cause the material to decompose and become brittle. When PBT injection molding, it is necessary to use a large nozzle to feed the glue. It is not suitable to use a hot runner system. The mold must be well ventilated. Recycling, when shutting down, it is necessary to clean the material pipe with PE or PP material in time to avoid carbonization.
