ULTEM 2110 PEI is mainly produced and sold by SABIC. The current development trend is to improve heat resistance. For this reason, p-phenylenediamine structure is introduced and alloyed with other special engineering plastics. In order to improve the mechanical strength of PEI, engineering plastics such as PC and PA are used to form alloys. In terms of polymerization technology, twin-screw continuous extrusion polymerization reaction technology is being developed, and industrial production is expected to be realized soon.
It has both excellent high-temperature mechanical properties and wear resistance, so it can be used to manufacture valve parts for water pipe steering valves. Due to its high strength, flexibility and heat resistance, PEI is an excellent coating and film-forming material, which can form coatings and films suitable for the electronics industry, and can be used to manufacture pore sizes < 0.1 μm, with high permeability microporous membrane. It can also be used as high temperature resistant adhesive and high strength fiber etc.
SABIC’s ULTEM 2110 PEI resin is a 10% glass filled, standard flow polyetherimide (TG217C), internal mold release. Comply with ECO, UL94 V0 and 5VA listing.
SABIC ULTEM is an amber transparent solid, without any additives, it has inherent flame retardancy and low smoke. The oxygen index is 47%, the combustion grade is UL94-V-0, and the density is 1.28~1.42g/ cm3. PEI has strong high temperature stability, even if it is unreinforced PEI, it still has good toughness and strength. Therefore, the superior thermal stability of PEI can be used to make high-temperature heat-resistant devices. It has excellent mechanical properties, electrical insulation properties, radiation resistance, high and low temperature resistance and wear resistance, and can penetrate microwaves. PEI also has good flame retardancy, chemical resistance and electrical insulation properties. The glass transition temperature is very high, reaching 215°C. PEI also has very low shrinkage and good mechanical properties in the same direction. Adding glass fiber, carbon fiber or other fillers can achieve the purpose of reinforcement modification; it can also form a heat-resistant polymer alloy with other engineering plastics, and can be used for a long time at a working temperature of -160-180 °C.
