ltem—Amorphous thermoplastic polyetherimide (PEI) resin resin provides excellent high temperature heat resistance, high strength and stiffness, and broad chemical resistance.
Long-term heat resistance: | Physical and mechanical properties are excellent at high temperature due to the high glass transition temperature stability of 217°C Available with relative thermal index (RTI) up to 180°C |
Strength and stiffness: | Outstanding strength and amorphous thermoplastic among available alternatives, predictable stiffness and strength up to 200°C. Unfilled, transparent grades are equal in strength to other thermoplastics with opaque fillers. |
Dimensional Stability: | Among the most dimensionally stable thermoplastics available, will provide predictability over a wide temperature range, full grade with extremely high resistance to dimensionality. |
Environmental stress crack resistance: | Unlike most other amorphous thermoplastics, ULTEM resins retain strength and resist stress cracking when exposed to automotive and aircraft fluids, aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, acids, and weak aqueous solutions |
Flammability and Toxicity: | No additives Inherently flame retardant, in most grades – exceptionally difficult to ignite, with 47% Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI), UL94 V0 specification in a thin 0.41mm section. Generates very low smoke per the NBS smoke evolution test, with combustion products no more toxic than wood. |
Processing: | Can be extruded, thermoformed, extrusion blow molded, injection molded, flowable and allows long flow lengths down to 0.2mm thick using conventional injection molding equipment |
